Ini Edo, Oge Okoye, Kosoko, others speak out on anti-gay marriage law

A few days ago, President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act into law. It criminalises same sex marriage and any form of gay rights associations in Nigeria, and prescribes 14-year jail term for contravention. Celebrities expressed their opinions on the bill.

Funmi Iyanda, TV presenter/host:
Homosexuality is a noun, not a verb. As such, it is non-injurious to others. Its existence for centuries has not slowed human reproduction.
Blackface Naija, rapper:
It is a good thing, but we have far more serious problems facing us at the moment. Do you think we should be talking about gay marriage at this time and age? Why can’t we face more important issues like electricity, education and all? Gay marriage should not be an issue for us. However, I like (the fact) that Nigeria is standing for something that is not in our culture. So, I agree.
Toyson Bucknor, Radio/TV presenter:
There is no way I am not relocating from Nigeria sha. Even if I braved through no power, bad roads, insecurity and all, this law against consenting adults’ sexual behaviour is just pathetic, discriminatory and hypocritical. And to make it worse, then they even criminalise gay rights’ groups. Congrats, Nigeria; you always make me ashamed of you.
Ini Edo, Nollywood actress:
Same sex marriage is biblically wrong. It is not right. I support the law as long as we take care not to step on the rights of people. We all have rights to make certain choices that suit us. I respect people’s rights. However, I believe that the president has taken the right decision.
Ruggedman, rapper/ businessman:
I just believe there are more important things the citizens of Nigeria need the government to eradicate first, and sexual matter is not top of my list.
Oge Okoye, Nollywood actress:
It is something I truly support. I concur. Our president has done the right thing. I am totally against gay marriage. It is not even biblically right. Was it not what made God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah?
Adesola Kosoko, Nollywood actress:
It is a welcome development. I like it. Kudos to Mr President.
T. B. Joshua, Preacher/Prophet:
If my parents were one (gay), I would not have been given birth to. Those that are asking this question, if your parents were one (same sex), you would not have been given birth to. You that are reading me, if your parents were one, you would not be reading this today. God bless the reader and the hearer.
